Much worse?

I hate to say it, but the popular phrase, “You ain’t seen nothing yet,” applies. Without skipping a beat, Jesus continued, “men’s hearts failing them from fear” (Luke 21:26). What is the number one cause of death in developed countries, including the United States? It’s cardiovascular disease. Or, more simply, heart disease. Highly processed fatty foods pose a serious threat to us all. “The first symptom many people feel that they are having a heart attack,” one doctor commented, “is sudden death.” Jesus also added another word as a contributing cause—fear. Talk to your doctor. Chronic fear, stress, and nervousness can raise blood cholesterol levels and blood pressure, leading to heart attacks.

Yet Christ’s words imply much more. Look again closely: “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.” The main reason Jesus gives as to why human hearts will fail them from fear is because they are “looking after those things which are coming on the earth” (Luke 21:26 KJV). This verse is uncanny. Think about it. Jesus said this nearly two thousand years ago; yet today it is now possible for people all around the globe—in ways unknown to previous generations—to literally look at “those things which are coming on the earth.”

How?

On TV, on the internet, and on YouTube.

Unlike what occurred on a limited scope in A.D. 70 when Jerusalem was sacked by Romans, the context of this specific prediction is a global mess. “Upon the earth distress of nations,” said the Lord. In A.D. 70, technology had not developed enough for people all over planet Earth to be “looking after those things that are coming upon the earth.”

But now it has.

I repeat: now it has.

Our situation is truly unlike what has been possible for the majority of human history.

The last part of verse 26 adds, “for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” This implies that as we near the sunset of fallen human history our solar system itself will do bizarre things.

Imagine with me. Let’s say a gigantic asteroid suddenly headed our way (in the last few years this has happened many times). Because of NASA, sophisticated telescopes, TV, the internet, and YouTube, billions of viewers could literally witness real-time images of an approaching fireball long before disaster struck. The same is true of a whole host of possible crises. Because of developing technologies, anything that seriously threatens humanity’s collective global sanity can be watched almost instantly.

This is all a direct fulfillment of Bible prophecy. As never before, we are the looking generation, exactly as Jesus said.

What’s next on the horizon? Brace yourself. Jesus continued, “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory” (Luke 21:27).

The Truth Teller said it. According to the Man who doesn’t lie, it won’t be too long after earth’s inhabitants have been fearfully “looking after those things which are coming on the earth” that there will be a major scene change. Then will come the final act of earth’s drama.
